Antibiotic Resistant Superbugs

I recently read an article on antibiotic resistant bacteria that is being found in chickens produced in the US.  Needless to say the results were very alarming. Having raised animals for may years, I understand patterns of selective breeding to obtain a desirable result.  To breed bacteria that is resistant to antibiotics would require the creation of a suitable environment for it to live, the provision of hosts for it to grow and reproduce on, then the introduction of antibiotics would be the process to cull those without a strong enough immunity to it.  Those with the ability to resist the antibiotics remain to breed and the process repeats until the antibiotics no longer have effect.  Unfortunately the industrial food system calls this raising chicken to eat.

There is a tremendous amount of information on the internet claiming scientific results with damning evidence against industrial food production, yet there also seems to be just as many results claiming low or no evidence of any health risks.  It can all become very confusing.

I am not bashing science here.  It is a very important factor in our future and critical thinking around how we make better food choices and build towards a positive future.  I am not a scientist however and have no desire to pretend to be one by quoting studies and research findings to make out that somehow science is on our side in the way we choose to farm.  Instead our philosophy is based more on a healthy admiration and respect for nature, a mentor that we look up to and try our best to understand and replicate.
