Score!
It's been a busy week on the farm as I try to quickly build a roof over my head while at the same time move out of my current home - but more on that in my next post. For now, I wanted to share some good fortune I had on my trips to and from the farm.
I drove past a house in my street and saw all sorts of building materials strewn across the lawn. It looked to me like there was a bathroom renovation taking place.
My eyes went straight to the bath out front and I stopped to take a look at it. There were no holes or any damage and best of all, it was an old Metters cast iron bath. As the saying goes, 'they don't make them like they used to', and this tub would last for many more years. I knocked on the door and the owner told me it was there for anyone to take, so I thanked him and loaded it onto the ute.
I explained in a previous post on my preference for re-use instead of recycle - well this bath will soon become a wonderful water trough for my livestock ... and it didn't cost a cent!
On my way home, I passed by my sisters house site where she is building her first home. She asked for some help moving left over bricks and timber that she wanted to keep instead of allowing the building company to dump it in landfill. With my 're-use lens' firmly fixed on all the goodies around me, I was able to salvage some timber and wire I needed for mobile chicken houses I want to build at a later date. My most favorite find was the leftover steel reinforcement from the concrete slab. This leftover building waste will be perfect for my climbing beans.
It truly is amazing what you can find for free if you have the right mindset.
