Potato Planting

Early spring is a great time to plant potatoes.  They are an amazing vegetable that's easy to grow and able to be stored for ages.  Their versatility is amazing: boiled, baked, fried or mashed, home grown potatoes can't be beaten. To plant simply dig in a long trench, about 10 centimeters deep will be fine.

It's great to have help when planing out potatoes, so I enrolled the help of my wife and daughter for the task.

Space them out evenly and then cover over with soil.

Once green shoots appear, I will add more soil to cover them and repeat this process until there is a  mound of earth around knee high.  This process encourages the shoots to branch out beneath the mounded soil to produce more potatoes.

Potatoes can be grown almost anywhere, a garden bed, old crates, I know some people even plant them straight into the compost pile!  If you've never planted them before, I highly recommend  you try it.
