Introducing Wellington

It was a hard but rewarding day today. I purchased a Brahman bull five months ago. I had to agist him off farm for this whole time as the rest of my property was leased out and I couldn't put him in with my herd so as to avoid winter calving. As it turned out, some of the cowes were in calf anyway, so the wait means I now have the chance to have them all on the same calving cycle anyway.

Wellington is a grey bull and naturally polled; this means he has no horns: a trait I hope he will pass onto the offspring.

It was such a good feeling to finally bring him onto the farm today and see another one of my plans come to life after so many years.

As my brother in law Mitch opened the stock trailer, Wellington became very eager to meet the "Ladies" and ran out to say hello. The cows seemed to be a little scared at the new company, and so they ran away from him. Wellington followed, also at a run, believing there was something else chasing them. So it was a comedy of errors - but they all settled down soon enough.

After a fifteen hour day of various jobs, Mitch and I were both exhausted ... So it was time to build a fire, have a BBQ, open a bottle of red and sit back to watch Wellington flirt with the ladies :)
