Old Is New In 2012

Happy New Year! I wanted my first blog post for 2012 to show how something old can be turned into something new.

In my blog post 'Score!' I proudly showed the leftover steel reinforcement mesh I found at my sisters house and the plans I had in store for it later.

The Lazy Housewife Beans (please remember I didn't name these beans - lol) that I planted in my raised beds have been growing very well.  These climbing beans have now reached a stage where they need a support to climb - enter the steel mesh.

I pressed the spikes at one end of the 'now-bean-trellis' into the ground to steady the base and then hammered a stake in behind it for support.  Using some old hay bale string, I tied the trellis to the post and gave it the a comprehensive stability test ... a couple of shakes; looked good to me.  :)

For those beans that were long enough to reach, I gave them a little help to start their journey up the trellis ... from here they should be more than able to do the job themselves.

Looking forward to plenty of tall growing beans later in the summer.
