Firewood

There have been some heavy rains over the last four days.  It is fantastic for the fruit trees I planted recently, although it does make it difficult to get anything done outside. In between showers, my brother in law and I have been out cutting firewood.

Although we are still in early Spring, the weather can be rather cold, so this was a great opportunity to gather some small loads of wood to burn during the cold nights and early mornings.  There is nothing quite like the heat from a wood fire.  Some of my fondest childhood memories are reading in front of the fire while it was cold and stormy outside.

Fallen Redgum Tree

Redgum is the timber of choice for wood fire owners in Australia.  It burns for hours and is not too difficult to cut.  I have three main types of native trees on the farm.  Redgum, Yellow Box and Stringy Bark trees.

As we continued to cut a full Ute load of wood, it got me thinking.  This is a natural, renewable resource of the land, could this provide another source of income for me?  I need to think on this some more.  I'm not in the firewood business and am not looking to start.  Yet in small quantities for a  few select customers, it could be possible.

For now all I can say is, watch this space.
