Corn Harvest
It has been a very wet first week of Autumn this year. At the first opportunity, I went out to the veggie patch to check on things. I knew the corn was almost ready.
Sometimes it can be difficult to know when the best time to harvest corn is. A good sign is the fine hair at the end of the cob dries out and turns brown. Once this happens, I gently peel back the leaf until I just see the corn itself. If they are yellow, I dig my nail into one of them and if the juice has a pale milky color, their ready.
To harvest corn, take a strong grip and then pull down. The corn should snap off cleanly
It never ceases to amaze me at the large amount of food that can come from such a small space. At the end of the harvest, I have enough corn to fill a large bag, plenty for myself, family and friends.
Does it get better than this?
